Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Cert 12A) Cinema Review

5:41pm Saturday 12th July 2008

WHEN Harrison Ford agreed to don that famous leather jacket again, a generation of Indiana Jones fans were already humming the iconic theme tune.

So when Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opened this weekend, there was no surprise to see packed cinemas across the country.

The Spielberg/Lucas creation was always guaranteed to be a smash – but was the comeback worth it?

Now in his 60s, Ford still has that Indy swagger and arrogance that characterised the first three films. And he seems to do most of his own stunts too.

Set in the 1950s, in the heart of the Cold War, we are transported from Arizona to Peru and then the Amazon on a typical Dr Jones rollercoaster ride.

It is all here – the glamourous baddie (played by Cate Blanchett), the love interest (rekindled in this film by Karen Allen) and the cheeky sidekick (Shia LeBouf).

And this film is full of action-packed stunts too as well as impressive CGI images.

But a bizarre ending is likely to polarise audiences.

For me, I wanted to walk out. And I can imagine most of the fans of the original trio of films will feel very disappointed and let down.

6/10 Should have been better
