By Melanie Moore »

A FREAK lab accident caused by a mini mad scientist gives a bomb-sniffing beagle named Shoeshine superpowers to save the world.

Adopted by one of the security guards, an aged and overweight James Belushi, Shoeshine finds a friend in the ex-cop's teenage son, Jack.

The troubled teen is still coming to terms with the death of his mum and when he uncovers his new pet's secret identity, the pair set out to right the wrongs and get the girls.

Along with saving cats from trees and putting the bad boys behind bars, the daring duo have to keep Shoeshine's secret personality under wraps and escape the clutches of scientist Dr Simon and his bumbling sidekick, Cad.

Based on the 70s cartoon, it's Scooby Doo meets Hong Kong Phooey with the excellent Jason Lee as the voice of Underdog and newcomer Alex Neuberger as Jack.

The scenes where Jack is trying to find a super hero costume that's just right for his four-legged friend are hilarious – Clark Kent eat your heart out.

An entertaining family film, the kids'll love it.
