Missing the patriotism

I was planning my summer the other day thinking about all the fun things I could be getting up to when I realised there was something missing.

You see about this time every other year the whole country (me included) goes into patriotic meltdown. We all hang flags out of windows and attach them to our cars, take days off work to go to the pub ridiculously early and suddenly know everything about what Cheryl Cole's doing everyday.

All because of football. But not this summer!

England is not at Euro 2008, and watching some of the games on telly over the weekend it really hit home. So I've decided I must get involved by supporting a team. I'll get a flag and hang it out of my bedroom window, and if I can use it as an excuse to get a day off I'll do that too!

The only problem is, who do I choose?

I was thinking Portugal because Cristiano Ronaldo plays for them and as you know I'm a Red, so that works. But then again, I like Spain too. France is somewhere I go on holiday a lot, and I've always enjoyed their wine...

Chelsea's told me to go for Italy because they're all good looking, although I'm not so sure... maybe Holland stand out a bit more with their lovely orange kits. And then there's Germany, the favourites... I like to back a winner. It's always better if the hosts do well, so maybe I should go for Switzerland or Austria...? Croatia are the dark horses and I'm good with animals, I once had a Polish babysitter, and I got a nice Russian hat when I was in Moscow for the Champions League final.

That leaves Sweden, Greece, Romania, Turkey and the Czech Republic all of which have a lot going for them I'm sure...

I can't decide!!!
