Sale High School celebrates hitting GCSE pledge

On June 12 this year, Sale High School headteacher Mrs Kathy Leaver wrote to the Messenger to assure its readers that the school would achieve the Government’s minimum targets for GCSE results this year.

Today the school learned that her confidence was justified, as Year 11 students achieved a 32% pass rate (A*-C grades including Maths and English), an improvement of 6% on 2007. There was good news too in the school’s specialism subjects, with pass rates in Maths increased by 5%, in Design & Technology by 15% and in IT by 29%, to an impressive 85%.

“These improvements in our GCSE results prove that Sale High School is making good progress. We are delighted that more students are achieving the all-important Maths and English they need, and that we are increasing pass rates in our specialism subjects,” said Mrs Leaver. “I said in June that I felt it was wrong that we should be named a National Challenge school and these results show parents that I was right. I believe we have great capacity to improve further, and that the changes we have made in the school recently will bear this out in future.”
