Taste of Fairtrade

Trafford’s Fairtrade steering group will be in attendance at the Taste of Trafford event at Altrincham Market on Sunday 21st September, between 11am - 4 pm, with lots of samples to try, and a free prize draw for a bag of Fairtrade goods when you pledge to change an item of shopping to one with the Fairtrade logo.

We need your help! Trafford are working towards achieving Fairtrade Borough Status with the Fairtrade Foundation, this requires a portfolio of events, promotions, and media coverage to be compiled in order to evidence the support that is happening in the borough, therefore we need organisations, faith groups, community groups, businesses, and educational establishments to support us by contributing to the portfolio.

Seeing Fairtrade in action
A few days ago I went on the hunt for a sugar plantation, with Sue, a retired nurse from Britain who is over in Malawi doing six months’ voluntary work. She is based several hours’ north of us, in Salima, helping local nurses caring for and visiting people who are dying. At home Sue buys all her sugar from the charity Traidcraft – so we were looking for the co-operative who their white sugar.
