'Friends' could help Remembrance service

11:00am Monday 1st December 2008

AFTER reading the letters in SAM concerning the shambles of a Remembrance Service at the War Memorial in Sale, I would like to support the writers in all they have said.

Charge will hit elderly too

3:30pm Sunday 30th November 2008

DEAR SUM readers, Living just inside the M60 in Stretford, I will be living right beside the congestion charging point.

Stunned by comments

9:20am Saturday 29th November 2008

I WAS so sad to read the article by Chris Griffin about the hurtful care home comments slammed by planning chiefs in Urmston.

Let children be children

THANKS to the Messenger for bringing to the attention of a wider audience the ongoing struggle faced by Irlam Road nursery in allowing our children to play.

Hope the decision will be 'no'

2:50pm Thursday 27th November 2008

I HAVE never written in before – but I find myself compelled to write regarding the debacle which is the proposed congestion charge for Manchester.

No benefit for congestion charge

12:40pm Wednesday 26th November 2008

I CANNOT see what Sale has to benefit from having the congestion charge. The Sale Water Park is of major concern as it seems that half of this nature reserve is to be turned into a car park. Anyone using this junction to get onto the M60 in the morning knows how slow the traffic it is already. I can believe adding a huge car park will make it any easier for Sale residents to leave and enter Sale at this junction. Another point is that in London the congestion charge doesn’t make much revenue from charging. They make it from the revenue from the £100 penalty charge. Having lived in London for many years before living in Sale I can testify how easy it is to be caught out and end up paying penalties for straying into the zone at the wrong time. I was for the congestion charge in London, but Manchester is a different place and I can’t believe that there are any benefits worth paying this extra tax for.

Nice service, shame about the organisation

12:30pm Tuesday 25th November 2008

MAY I take this opportunity of thanking all the people of Sale who attended the Rememberance Sunday service. It was fantastic to see so many young people there.

Please help little Jack

2:57pm Monday 24th November 2008

PLEASE, please, please could somebody help little Jack Astall, whose mother Lee-Anne Brown was murdered last month? On reading your interview with his great grandma Jean Davis, I was so saddened, but not surprised, to learn that he is having nightmares and that Jean believes he should have therapy.

Make your objections known

12:29pm Monday 24th November 2008

THE sale of the open, green and public space at Barrington Road, primarily for a 15 space car park for a new office block is unnecessary, as the developer already has recent planning permission for the same office block with 21 space car park to the rear on land they already own.

Beware of wheelie bins

3:10pm Saturday 22nd November 2008

A WORD of warning to early risers.
